This show continues to be a lot of fun to watch. It’s satisfying to see the series explore newly written scenarios. In the episode ‘Bait’ Ash is drawn to Kelly’s home, despite his protests, where he’s warmly greeted by their family, but not everything is as it seems. Back at the trailer park, police recover Deadite remains and a police sketch of Ash is now circulating the department. This episode continues to deliver on the surreal Evil Dead atmosphere, but the scenes were contained to a few settlings. On the other hand, you get to see what it’s like to have Ash furiously break down your door.
The episode ‘Books from Beyond’ begins with an, as of yet, unnamed woman travelling in a red sports car, searching for Ash. Who is this woman and why is she so determined to find him? We then catch up with Ash and his crew visiting the store ‘Books from Beyond’ to have the Necronomicon translated. Scenes in the store rises steadily in suspense and deliver some terror. Ash is confronted by Amanda for the first time in this episode, from which she delivers some seriousness and a funny moment with Ash. The episode ends with Pablo convincing Ash to visit his shaman uncle and Amanda in a perilous situation.
This show is such a treat, I couldn’t be happier with it. Both of these episodes left me wanting more. Special effects are great, most notably in Books from Beyond with its portrayal of a frightening creature from the dark realm of the Necronomicon.
